A busy day in Brighton

A big, big thanks to everyone who came along to hear me talk in Brighton yesterday evening. I’ve been really overwhelmed by your kind comments and support and interest in the Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain trip - we’re glad that you think it is as exciting as we do!

In the afternoon, the Scarlet Oyster crew came with me to visit the Musto store in Brighton with me - Musto have been fantastic and are kindly providing all the clothing for our Round Britain trip. At the store, we were interviewed by a schoolgirl called Carla who had won a competition in a local newspaper. One of Carla’s questions was “Are you all friends onboard?” - we were all quite relieved that Joseph answered that with a resounding “Yes!”.

The next stop for the Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain trip is Dover - weather permitting, Scarlet Oyster should be arriving in Dover Marina on Friday 10th June and I will be speaking at The Ark in Dover at 1430 on Saturday.

So for now, thanks Brighton ….and Dover here we come!

Ellen

Hello Ellen,

Good to know that things are going well; from the description, one would most probably be able to draw that conclusion only.

Even though I have not won any competition which would have actually entitled me to an answer, I would still take heart from the fact that the team you are a member of has shown an interest in furnishing people with appropriate responses, hence what follows is a question that I have:

Why do people remove seemingly, I would like to believe, civil comments made on their posts. As you are the only person who happens to be in the position to furnish a response to this question, hence I would actually appreciate a response; reason being, it would allow me to evaluate my conduct.

Other than that, do keep posted, and the last picture is really nice; not that the others are not, but it’s better. With the hope for continued success in your recent endeavor.

Take care,

Irfan.

Hi Irfan, I’m afraid I am not sure what comments you are referring to, but please feel free to send again and I will definitely answer them!

Hello Ellen,

Prolonged absence of a message, when the author has the time and an interest in knowing what others might have had to say based on the latest contribution, can make the whole thing seem like as if the owner of the forum has decided to remove the message for reasons only known to that person. Here I am actually talking about the message I posted in response to what you had to say upon visiting your old school and the neighbouring one. After posting the comment, I kept checking back and not only was not able to find any response - not that I expect one all the time - but was also not able to locate my message. Even though it has reappeared since, but that prolonged absence made it seem as if you had taken it off for some reason(s) only known to you. Hence I decided to ask about it. As it has since reappeared, so the actual cause of concern which was the basis for the preceding post in any case stands resolved.

Having said that, you still happen to be in the position of having taken off one of the messages I have posted on your site. This one in response to the D-Day for the Vendée Globe message of yours. Anyhow, I really am not interested in forcing the issue here. It’s just that when a comment has not been made with an ill-intent, the removal leaves a feeling of uneasiness as to what might have inadvertently gotten said, nothing more really.

Anyhow, that’s it. Once again, take care,

Irfan.

Hi Irfan, I am a bit confused about your comments about messages disappearing and reappearing but we have had some problems with our CMS system recently which may explain why there have been strange things going on! Anyway, just to reassure you, all comments here are posted verbatim and without censorship.
