Birmingham Climate Change Festival

I had an amazing day in Birmingham yesterday at the Climate Change Festival sponsored by E.ON. It was fantastic to speak to so many different groups of people – schools, community leaders, the University, the Housing Association amongst others - who were so passionate about doing their bit to reduce their carbon footprint and it was really good to see how Birmingham City Council were proactively supporting this.

What I saw was a real collection of tangible, visible projects that were actually making a difference in terms of the City’s footprint and should stand them in good stead to help them with their target to reduce their CO2 emissions by 60% by 2026. That means that this year, each person in Birmngham needs to reduce their own CO2 emissions by 100kg.

Go for it, Birmingham!

Good to see that the festival had such a positive impact on visitors! Goes to show how successful such events can be in raising the profile of such an important issue.

Hi!
I’m a teacher of English in Argentina, and I work with a book which has an article about you! My students loved reading about you and asked things about you I didn’t know, so I decided to look for more information and I ended up here in your blog and this gave me an idea: they have many questions they would love to ask you and I was wondering if we could contanct you by e-mail, they would be absolutely thrilled to contact somebody they can see and read about in their text books!
Hope to hear from you
Kind regards

Re: Andreas comment.
See that’s one thing I just can’t comprehend Ellen. Like the whole world knows your name and even a little of who you are to an extent. I’m not sure I would like that - Not that I have to worry about it much.

That said, to your credit you haven’t gone down the path of ‘celebrity’ in the way a lot of well known people go. I don’t get the celebrity culture in this country at all. I don’t think it does the “celebrity” any good and I certainly don’t think it does society any good either. I don’t watch TV much but everyone on it seems to be obsessed with fame or obsessed with the famous. Then when they do achieve fame they wave the press intrusion flag.

They seem to think they are better than anyone else. You seem pretty much well-rounded to be fair (I don’t mean yor waist line).

Me, well I treat everyone the same. I’m afraid if you ever came to my house for dinner, you would have to sit on the settee with your plate on your lap like everyone else and you would probably get nominated to ‘dry up’. Although for you there is a reasonable chance I would break out the good Whiskey, I wouldn’t want you to slum it too much.

Fillet steak with pepper source tonight Woo Hoo!

[…] Ellen sure knows how to captivate the audience. A recent post was published on Birmingham Climate Change FestivalHere’s a brief excerpt of what was written: […]
