Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all!

These are my New Year’s resolutions which I will be trying to stick to this year:

- Try not to travel where at all possible - if you can do a live link from the Southern Ocean, we should be able to chat from office to office!

- Talk to people more about little ideas that I think of to save energy to encourage a different mindset….

What are yours?

Hi Ellen,
May the 2008 year be happy for you! Good luck with your resolutions!
I have a few personal resolutions, but the ones that can be influential on others are: being more generous, being less judgmental and more loving towards everybody.
And on the note of environmental sustainability Jack Kornfield sais:
Simplicity brings more happiness that complexity.
Ellen,
I’ve been following your sailing endeavors from the Vandee Globe race; I devoured your book (I don’t normally buy books since we live in a tiny apartment, I borrow books from a library, but I bought yours!) and I check your blog and web sites time to time. Thanks for being an inspiration for me!

Hi Ellen,

A happy new year to you too!
I can’t imagine that you won’t stick to your resolutions because… you are Ellen!
I don’t care much about resolutions but this year I already told my colleagues to switch off as much as possible when they leave the office. Apparently your writing about sustainability has made a greater impression on me than watching that Al Gore video a few months ago. On the 1st of January I tried to reduce my CO2 footprint by breathing less but I failed miserably. :-)
And last but not least; I will take a few days off in September when the iShares cup returns to Amsterdam so I can follow the action from start to finish.
That’s a cool resolution don’t you think?

Resolutions? They are different from my plans and goals but here they are!

1. To lose one stone and eat proper food.

2. Watch minimal Television.

3. Stick to 2008 adventure and travel plans!- stay focused!

4. Learn more languages.

5. Wear more sun cream, even in the winter months.

6. To no longer use hair drier.

7. Learn to sail… properly!

8. Run/ jog on beach each day.

9. Get up at 7.30am and hoover dog hairs first thing!

10. Perhaps try less alcohol on weekend?

11. To find happiness in every moment of every day!!

Hi Ellen,
Happy New Year!!
It’s funny that you should mention the start of 2008 because as it happens it has become the year i discovered you.
I was always aware of your more publicised achievements and had realised previously that you must work extremely hard at that your work was well respected and inspirational to others.
HOWEVER,it was not until i went into my local library just before Christmas and happened to stumble across your book. From the first page i was hooked.I have never been given goose pimples, tears, laughter and inspiration from any single text before.Your work is truly amazing and i wish you all the luck in the world with your endevours for 2008 and beyond!
One of my resolutions is definitely going to be taking a sail on a boat, something i would never have considered previously.
Continue braving and conquering the oceans but more importantly continue to be you, because you are a true inspiration to millions.
All my best wishes Sam x

Dear Ellen,

Happy new year too!

I hope you will do your projects. I would like to say you that I saw you along the road in France in 2003 (Trinite sur mer). You were with your bicycle and I was coming from Glenan cursus, my first “steps” on the water. And since you’ve changed my view of the sea. Since I try to find, with my four children and my wife, more little ideas to have the lowest impact on the earth. We like to sail and since few years we are looking to buy a boat. Finally, we have decided to build our boat with our children. The reasons are :
-we can choose all materials and try to find good “ecological” products
- children learn that nothing is made easily and money is not the solution.
- They can learn also to be proud of their work.
- we choose a boat without engine! Just sails and oars!
- and finally, each day worked is a dream for our future sailing…

Have a nice year
(sorry for my english)
François
