Bottles (again)

I tend to always travel with a plastic bottle in my bag which I fill up wherever I am with tap water. Its sometimes a challenge to hang on to it though! The problem is that if you leave an empty bottle in a hotel room it is immediately classed as rubbish and whisked away when the room us cleaned. You have to resort to hiding your bottle somewhere! This I find frustrating, and though people are just doing their job it’s an example of how our instincts can be wasteful…

Haha, how funny, hiding a plastic bottle in your hotel room. You could try to hide it in the hotel room safe, next to your other treasures. But I understand your problem. If you’re used to reuse things as much as possible you have to take into account that generally people don’t think the same way. After all these things are called disposable bottles so what do you expect people to do with it. Perhaps you can start a campaign to change the name of disposables to reusables! I would support it. :)

And maybe until we get the name changed from ´disposables´ to
´reusables´ you could possibly invest in one of those hard plastic, flask type ones. Sounds wasteful I guess when you can use the other ones, however, less likely to be swiped and right now, recognised as reusable.

Last weekend I was in London for the Earls Court boat show, and I’m pleased to report that the little hotel in Southwark where I was staying passed your “bottle test” with flying colours: an empty “disposable” water bottle deliberately left in plain view on the table was still there after the cleaners went through! Could have been pure chance though, or just inefficient room service…

Hi Ellen you are an inspiration to us all, I have a solution to the bottle problem, I use one from a Cycle shop, it doesnt look disposable so people leave it alone. Also have a look for RIFE (resonance) therapy, and High dose vitamin C and Hydrogen peroxide for cancer. happy christmas. Gra.

Or you could have one of those running bottles , that look like the wee bottles they have in hospitals. Thus putting the poor cleaners in a strange quondery . (and also spreading odd rumours about yourself hmm maybe not)

On a side note, on the Trust website there dosnt appear to be a away to make electronic donations (paypale etc ) Is this the case or am i being daft ???

Hi Laurance,

You cán make elctronic donations. Go to the Trust website, click on “Donate Here”, click on the JustGiving link (it is the image) and on that site you can make the donation (it really works!).

And no indeed, that bottle is not a good idea. :-)

After much deliberation I finally got out of this quandary by buying a four pack of a well known sports drink (Lucozade sport) and was given a refillable bottle.

Not only was the bottle free but as it is not the ubiquitous plastic bottle it was hotel friendly as well.

To take the debate up a notch, I have ceased using plastic bags. I refuse politely but firmly all attempts by shops to allow me to advertise them freely.

Hi Ellen -

If only more people thought the way you do, Ellen. I see so much thoughtless waste here in NYC. It used to boggle my mind but I’ve gotten used to it though I still do my best to recycle and reuse.

A huge fan,
