Bradwell!!

I had more fun than I have had in a long time this week!

We’ve had our first Trust activities week at Bradwell on Sea Outdoor Education Centre. For the first time we’ve attempted a residential activities week, rather than the standard 4-day Yacht trips that we’ve done so far.

I spent the first two days there and we had a fantastic time, despite the fact that the weather could have been better. The centre was just fantastic, and the activities had us laughing ourselves to bits!

On day 1 we did sailing in the morning on the Bradwell boats, then in the afternoon we did some racing on the Dart 16’s were just awesome. There were four of us on each boat, and by the end of the fourth lap it was really quite windy! But everyone got soaked and loved it… Perfect sailing!

Being back there on the east coast was wonderful and reminded me of being a young kid again as that area of the East Coast were our old stomping grounds. Just 20 miles SW of Walton on the Naze where we spent so many summers making boats out of the sand, and messing around in the creeks. It’s a wonderful area… I guess you forget just how much fun you can have messing around in boats!

That evening we had a go at the high-ropes, which was a wooden structure you climb across and up which reaches high into the sky. It was marvellous to see how much confidence the young people got from climbing so high, many thought that they would not be able to do it. But most did, and the smiles and the grins said it all!

The following day was canoeing on the local canal which was a giggle a minute! We were two or three to a canoe with the objective of the day seeming to be getting soaked. We did everything from trying to fill up others canoes, to travelling down the wier, to tying peoples mooring lines to tree stumps! It was great fun, everyone jumping into the canal at the end!

Coming home was sad as it is not a place that you ever really want to leave. The staff and atmosphere was really fantastic, and the activities second to none…

if you go to www.ellenmacarthurtrust.org you can find out more!

cheers

Walton on the Naze , lumey thats bringing back old memories . The pie and Mash shop , the pier with the “scary” Roller Ghoster (hey latex monsters are scary when your little ). The kiddies play ground just before the Naze (concreate floors none of these modern old tyre stuff , with slippery surface polished to sliding oblivion), and the old cafe. Punch and Judy on the beach and a raft about 10 ft out you could swim to.

How the heck did we survive into adult hood :D

Hi Ellen

Whatever happened to Iduna ? Do you still own her and sail her once in a while?
