A day with the Trust…

Wednesday was a fantastic day as I switched off from work and spent all day with the Kids! We began in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight which is where the boats had spent the night before. There were 13 kids spread between three boats, from places as far away as Scotland to London, and all of various ages. It’s always incredible to get to know the kids and spend time amongst their incredible smiling faces! They are always so much fun and it’s a lesson for anyone out there in motivation to see their passion for just getting on with life.

In the morning we took them all out on a RIB for a quick spin the first trip out towards the needles where there were some fantastic waves to play in, then the second we hung around the entrance to the solent, and did a few donuts in the flatter water.

The laughter which came out of those boats was infectious, never have I met a group of people who were so keen on getting wet - they loved it!!

Following the RIB ride (thanks to Richard at SRC) we all had lunch then headed off to sail down to the beautiful Newtown Creek. It was a wonderful evening, the sun shone between the passing clouds, and despite the fairly strong winds that were sweeping across the solent Frank found a marvellous sheltered spot!

BBQ over we ferried the kids back to the boats, for a wonderful night in Newtown. Being there reminds me of my childhood, waking up to hear the lapping of the water around the boat and the sounds of the seabirds…. Knowing this lot though I think that the giggles would probably be heard first!

Are you ever going to come up to the Western Isles in Scotland and do anything like this? Its sounds really exciting and i would love to do it, so would a lot of other young sailors like me.
